Welcome to the Polish Heritage Society of Northeastern Wisconsin!
We are a nonprofit organization dedicated to honoring and sharing the vibrant traditions, language, and history of Poland and Polish immigrants. Whether you're of Polish descent or simply interested in learning more, we invite you to explore our programs, attend our events, and become part of our growing community here in the region. We are one of the largest Polish heritage organizations by membership in the Upper Midwest, driven by pride and dedicated to the education, promotion, and preservation of Polish heritage.
Our membership comprises a diverse group of individuals who share a common interest and curiosity about their heritage, regardless of the number of generations and branches that comprise their family tree. It’s this combination of culture and time that has helped to shape who we are today.
We trust that you, too, will be interested in sharing and discovering your roots and gaining an appreciation for the rich tradition and culture of the Polish people. We encourage you to explore our website, get involved, and discover your cultural identity.
Our board, operations, functions, writers/columnists, and events are all 100% volunteers. The PHS of NEW was founded 33 years ago and is a vibrant and growing non-profit organization today.

Researching your ancestral genealogy or planning a trip to Poland?
In our October/November 2025 newsletter, you will find three firsthand, well-written accounts of discovery as our columnists traveled to Poland to research family genealogy.
This edition of the newsletter also includes the obituary and tribute to Polonia's "Our Man In Warsaw," Robert Strybel. Mr. Strybel was a regular contributor to our newspaper and the newsletters of many Polish heritage organizations in the US. He passed away recently on August 10.
To receive our newspaper by mail, please register to become a member. Archived copies of our past newsletters can be found by clicking the "Newsletters" tab at the top of this webpage.
In our October/November 2025 newsletter, you will find three firsthand, well-written accounts of discovery as our columnists traveled to Poland to research family genealogy.
- "15 Days in Poland," the first in his new series, is by PHS of NEW board member Steve Karcz. He and his wife, Tracey, traveled to Poland on their honeymoon this summer to explore their family's origins and histories. The Genealogy.com guided trip was beyond expectations!
- "Family Roots - The Second Trip" is by PHS of NEW member, published author, and our newsletter columnist Dr. Helen A. Scieszka. You will be surprised by what happened when Dr. Helen's friend in Poland left personal notes from Dr. Helen on family gravesites in a cemetery in Poland on All Saints' and All Souls' Day! In Poland, "All Saints" refers to the holiday Wszystkich Świętych on November 1st, a solemn national day to remember the deceased.
- "Tracing Family Roots in Polish Cemeteries," by Tom Szymkowiak, CEO and co-founder of Polish tour company Genealogytour.com. Mr. Szymkowiak advertises his service in our newsletter, and Mr. & Mrs. Karcz's trip was arranged with the help of genealogytour.com.
